Blog Swipe: Interesting New Media Ad (SMS)



The ad that I choose is an SMS ad because mobile phone is the most commonly used mobile technology and SMS advertising messages reach the widest possible audience. It actually grabs my attention that it is simple yet straight to the point. The advertisement is about the Taco John’s, a fast food owned and operated by the Franchises.

 The SMS shows a message for a father’s day and free get value. This particular ad involves a direct keyword which is the product name “ Taco John’s “. It makes the connection between the one who receive the text message right away. It emphasis the USP (unit selling proposition) by providing or stating the benefits that the consumer will get.

This SMS doesn’t say too much and that the fact  it gets straight to the point. It it short and people don’t get tired of reading. Next, the coupon code will help a lot by attracting the consumers. This is one of the advertisement that can narrow down to the specific target audience.

It may also be related with the fastest way to reach the consumers. SMS has also a high open rate compare to all other ways of advertising because urge the person to open text text anyway. The reply is an easy way of getting responds from the consumers.  Research shows that on average 31% of consumers will respond to a survey via SMS.

  1. Personally, I think what makes SMS ads one of the most interesting new media ads because there are various types of benefits could be achieved. For example, SMS ads can develop brand message. For instance, any kind of promotion, it can be inform with a clear message in to the audience mind. It is also easy to attract audience mind through this new media ads as the brand message reaches out to targeted individuals that use mobile phones. Other than that, another clear benefit by using SMS ads is time saving. As soon as the marketing content is finalizes, mobile marketer can send the advertising message. It is definitely one of the main advantages a brand could achieve by using SMS ads.

  2. I agree with what mentioned by Felicia and Renerajs, SMS ad can be sent directly to the targeted audience. However, SMS can only carry words without illustration hence it might create lesser attractions towards people.
    From my opinion, an interesting new media ads must include the illustration as well as image or video. Illustration is always the best way to create impact or attraction. In some cases, an illustrated ad can create interactions with the audiences and people might tend to forward or share on social media such as facebook, youtube, instagram. Therefore, i think that the social media ad that mentioned just now are more interesting than the SMS ad.

  3. SMS is indeed one of the fastest ways to reach an audience. Although in my opinion they are quite outdated. Personally I would open the message just to clear the "unread" status and ignore it right afterwards. I only pay attention to SMS about discounts from my favorite brands, but not to other brands. I am pretty sure I am not the only person who feels this way towards SMS ads, so it would be pretty hard for newer or less established brands to promote themselves through SMS, even if it is a cheaper advertising method.

    I feel that social media is one of the best new media advertising method thus far as the visuals in them tend to engage an audience's attention more. Perhaps a social media ad would be a better option for this topic.
