Reflection: How to Create an Effective/Useful Brochure

In order to create an effective or useful brochure, the sequence of a logical arrangement or the structure with a logical flow is the most important element that is necessary. On the cover page, the title, brand name and company logo need to be included. By placing a picture of the company building on the company is a NO. Regardless the company has become a successful company or not, it is irrelevant. Audience only wants to know about the product that meets their needs.

The content of the brochure must include the benefits and feature. Benefits must be believable too. Overall, the content must be short and simple. One paragraph should be from three to five sentence only. If there are more than five sentences, break it. Visuals can be included but the picture must be interesting or relevant. Use present tense and conversation writing, audience will be able to feel more connected to the message that is written on the brochure. Bullet points can be included to focus on the key features of your product or services as it can attract audiences’ attention and lead them towards the action you want them to take next.

The back page of the brochure must include the logo and information of the company such as website, address, number and call to action “For more information, call xxx to learn…” or coupon for discounts or free items before certain date. Give audience a reason to act now such as quantities are limited, price increasing and so on.

  1. From all the facts stated above, me as a consumer as well would love to actually wants a brochure to be simple and straight to the point. Brochure should be designed in a manner where it will not bored a consumer in the first glance. A headline is the most important thing after all.

  2. Personally as a consumer, I do agree with the all the contributing factors of a successful/ effective brochure which are the headline, visual, and the benefits of the product. The copy of the headline and benefit must be smartly and creatively constructed in order to induce attention. Marketers and copywriters should approach from every angle in order to make the brochure more interactive and intriguing to look at in order to maximise the effectives of the brochure. Perhaps giving the brochure a character by using a different cut out shape for the brochure instead of the typical rectangular shape and also to make the brochure more personalised as if the brochure is directly speaking to the consumer. A way of doing so is by recognising the problem consumers are facing and then emphasise on how the product benefit has the solution. Consumers are always looking for something in return, therefore the call to action must be attractive enough by providing rebate or free gift in return in order to trigger an action.

  3. There are very good points made and I definitely agree with them. Adding on, I feel like a brochure's overall design matters a lot too. There are too many rectangular and boring brochures out there. People are bored of the same old designs of brochures, so their impressions on brochures is mostly negative. So having one in bold colors or in a unique shape would definitely make it stand out. It is so important for the creative team to come up with a unique one, otherwise people who see it will simply dismiss it and cast it into another bin.
